As the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic continues to disrupt the world, Global Citizen is using the power of music and advocacy to bring people together with One World: Together At Home.
Announced on April 6, One World: Together At Home is a global special virtual event curated in collaboration with Lady Gaga, premiering Saturday, April 18, in celebration and support of health care workers and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization (WHO).
Celebrities to partake in the One World: “Together at home” benefit concert will include notable names such as; Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendez, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Camilla Cabello, Ellen DeGeneres, Lupita Nyong’o Naomi Osaka, Alicia Keys to name a few and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.
African stars Black Coffee, Cassper Nyovest, Sho Madjozi and Nomzamo Mbatha have joined the “One World: Together At Home” lineup.nitially, Burna Boy and Idris Elba were the only Africans set to make appearances in Global Citizen’s ‘One World: Together at Home’ concert. However, South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest, Nomzamo Mbatha, DJ Black Coffee and Sho Madjozi are now part of the line-up. Joining them will be Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira.
Speaking on the concert, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evan said in a statement; “We are grateful to the private sector who have listened to the public’s call for action and come together to support the global response to Covid-19. This pandemic is too large for governments to tackle alone.
“We are also incredibly grateful for the continued support from the artist community to make One World: Together At Home a moment of global unity.
“Our hope for the special is that everyone will come away believing that we, as a shared humanity, can emerge from this moment forever grateful for the work of doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery store workers, and all those who are the backbone of our communities.”
The show will stream live on globalcitizen.org/togetherathome on Saturday, 18 April 2020, and will air on E! (DStv Channel 124) at 6pm CAT on Sunday, 19 April.
